Overview

Museum Tsuru is a museum in Tsuru City, Yamanashi Prefecture, presenting exhibits on the history and culture of the area. It was opened to pass down the history and cultural heritage of Tsuru to future generations, conveying the city's story as a former castle and post town through materials on local life and its past. In 2015 it merged with the Masuda Makoto Art Museum, which displays works by the painter Makoto Masuda, a native of Yamura-machi in Tsuru, so visitors can now engage with the city's culture from both historical and artistic angles.

Highlights

  • History and culture exhibits that pass down the heritage of Tsuru City
  • Displays of works from the Masuda Makoto Art Museum, merged in in 2015
  • A chance to engage with art tied to the painter Makoto Masuda, a Yamura-machi native
  • The appeal of a combined museum where history and art can be enjoyed together

History

The museum opened in 1999 with the aim of handing down the history and cultural heritage of Tsuru City to future generations. In 2015 it merged with the Masuda Makoto Art Museum, which exhibits works by the painter Makoto Masuda, born in Yamura-machi, Tsuru. With art added to its historical and cultural displays, it continues as a museum that conveys both the memory of the region and its art.

Access

The museum is located in Tsuru City, Yamanashi Prefecture (roughly 35.550 N, 138.905 E), near the city center on the northern foot of Mount Fuji. Besides driving, access by rail via the Fujikyuko Line is also conceivable. For opening hours, closed days, and parking details, please check the official information.
