In 1429 it became the ichinomiya, the foremost shrine of the surrounding district, and has since drawn the devotion of the community as its central place of worship. Sitting quietly on the high ground of Kobuchisawa at the southern foot of the Yatsugatake mountains, its venerable history and calm precincts welcome those who come to pray.

History

In 1429 the shrine became the ichinomiya of the neighboring district, gaining standing as the representative shrine of the area. In the Meiji era its ranking was formalized: it was designated a gosha (district shrine) in 1871, and in 1907 it was named a shrine eligible to receive government offerings. This progression from medieval to modern times speaks to the depth of the shrine's heritage.

Access

The shrine lies near latitude 35.86 north, longitude 138.31 east, in Tenjingu, Kobuchisawa, Hokuto City. Set in the highland area at the southern foot of Yatsugatake, it is convenient to reach by car. Nearby transport, parking and the hours during which visits are possible can change, so it is wise to check official sources before your visit.

Best season

Because it lies in highland country, the pleasant seasons run from the fresh green of early summer through a cool summer to the clear air of autumn. You can enjoy your visit amid the refreshing environment unique to the foot of Yatsugatake. Winter brings sharp cold and snow, so warm clothing and a check of road conditions are advisable when you go.
