Overview

Ichinomiya Asama Shrine is a Shinto shrine in the Ichinomiya neighborhood of Fuefuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture, long revered as an ichinomiya (first-ranked shrine) of the former Kai Province. It is one of the candidate shrines identified with a Shikinaisha (Myojin Taisha) of the ancient registers; its former shrine rank was Kokuhei Chusha, and today it is a Beppyo shrine of the Association of Shinto Shrines. As one of the nationwide Asama shrines, it is affectionately known as the Ichinomiya Asama Shrine, or simply Ichinomiya-san. Its enshrined deity is Konohanasakuya-hime.

History

The shrine is counted among the candidate shrines for a Shikinaisha (Myojin Taisha) recorded in the ancient rites, and it has carried a long history as an ichinomiya of Kai Province. Its former rank was Kokuhei Chusha, and it is now positioned as a Beppyo shrine of the Association of Shinto Shrines, continuing to serve as a central place of local faith among the many Asama shrines across Japan.
