Overview
Mount Kushigata rises to 2,052 meters on the border of Minami-Alps City and Fujikawa Town in Yamanashi Prefecture. It is a forward, outlying peak of the Akaishi Mountains, popularly known as the Southern Alps, and is counted among the 200 Famous Mountains of Japan. History
Standing on the eastern, outlying side of the Akaishi range, Mount Kushigata has long been a familiar peak for the people of Minami-Alps City and Fujikawa Town at its base. The greater part of the mountain is managed as a Yamanashi prefectural forest, and its rich woodlands have been preserved over many years. Its selection among the 200 Famous Mountains of Japan reflects both this natural setting and the approachable form of an outlying peak. For detailed climbing history or matters of local faith, it is best to consult official sources or local municipal guidance.
Access
The mountain sits on the boundary of Minami-Alps City and Fujikawa Town, rising along the western edge of the Kofu Basin. Visitors commonly reach the trailheads at its base by car from the Kofu-Minami interchange of the Chuo Expressway or from stations along the Minobu Line. Because it is a 2,052-meter peak with several trailheads, always confirm the latest road conditions, access points, and travel times through official sources or a visitor center.
Best season
The mountain is best climbed from the fresh greenery of early summer, through the cooler high summer, to the colored foliage of autumn. Rising above 2,000 meters, its heights stay pleasant even when the lowlands are hot, offering refreshing walks through the forest. Winter brings snow and ice that raise the difficulty, calling for proper gear and experience. Check the weather and trail conditions before visiting.
