
Overview
Mount Asahi rises along the border between Niigata and Yamagata Prefectures as part of the Asahi Mountain Range. Its main peak, Ō-Asahidake, reaches 1,870.3 meters and lies wholly within Oguni, Yamagata Prefecture, and it is counted among Japan's 100 Famous Mountains.

History
Together with the Dewa Sanzan to the north and the Iide Mountains to the south, Mount Asahi lies within Bandai-Asahi National Park. As one of the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains, it has long been cherished by hikers.
Access
The main peak, Ō-Asahidake, is located in Oguni, Yamagata Prefecture. As this is a deep mountain region, be sure to check trailhead access and trail conditions with maps and official information.
Best season
From early summer, when the snow melts and alpine flowers bloom, through autumn, when the ridgelines turn color, is the best time to climb; for day hikes in the snow-free season, choose the long daylight hours for peace of mind.
