History

Mount Chitose has been regarded as a mountain of faith and has walked alongside the lives of local people. Standing to the east of the city as a familiar presence, its foothills are alive with everyday activity. At 471.3 meters, it is one of the satoyama that represent Yamagata City and is chosen among the 100 Famous Yamagata Mountains.

Access

The mountain lies on the eastern side of central Yamagata City in Yamagata Prefecture, near latitude 38.23 and longitude 140.36. It is reached by heading east from the city center, and its nearness to town is part of its appeal.
