History
Itate Shrine is an ancient shrine ranked as a Myojin Taisha among the Shikinaisha shrines, and has stood in what was once Nagusa District of Kii Province. Its former shrine rank was gosha. Together with Shima Shrine and Shizuhi Shrine, also within old Kii Province, it has long been referred to as one of the "Ki-no-Sansho-sha," with the three shrines spoken of as a set.

The shrine stands in Sonobe, Wakayama City, Wakayama Prefecture, an area that once formed part of Nagusa District of Kii Province.
