
Overview
Kurobe Gorge is a V-shaped canyon extending along the middle and upper reaches of the Kurobe River in Kurobe, Toyama Prefecture. It was carved by the Kurobe River, which flows northward through granite bedrock, separating the Tateyama and Ushiro-Tateyama mountain ranges. The gorge lies within Chūbu-Sangaku National Park and is designated a Special Natural Monument and Special Place of Scenic Beauty.

History
Over a long span of time, the Kurobe River eroded the granite bedrock to form a deep and precipitous V-shaped valley. The area is included within Chūbu-Sangaku National Park and is designated a Special Natural Monument and Special Place of Scenic Beauty. It is counted among the Three Great Gorges of Japan together with Kiyotsu Gorge and Ōsugidani, and is also listed among Japan's hundred hidden scenic sites.
