Overview
The Tottori Sand Museum stands beside the Tottori Sand Dunes in Tottori, Tottori Prefecture, and exhibits sand sculptures. It began in 2006 as a sand-sculpture exhibition event and reopened in April 2012 as a mainly indoor venue. Roughly once a year the museum changes its theme for a new display.

History
The museum began in 2006 as a sand-sculpture exhibition event at the Tottori Sand Dunes. Through its fourth period the works were shown outdoors or in temporary tents, but from the fifth period in April 2012 the exhibition became mainly indoors. Since then displays have continued, changing theme roughly once a year.
Access
It lies beside the Tottori Sand Dunes in Tottori, and can be visited together with the dunes. Visitors typically arrive using local public transport.
Best season
From the new year into spring the museum closes to prepare and create the next work, so visits are best during the other exhibition periods.
