History
The museum opened on June 16, 1983 as the first public art museum in the San'in region. It has built its collection chiefly around paintings and photographs by artists tied to Yonago and Tottori, including Shoji Ueda, Kanji Maeda, Katsuta Koda, Shigeji Kunigami, Shindo Tsuji, Takashi Kijima, and Katsushige Nakahashi. On August 17, 2013 it reopened after renovations that included a new cafe and accessibility improvements. In August 2017 it received a donation of 79 Art Nouveau glass works by Galle and the Daum brothers from Yukio Inoue, a businessman living in Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima Prefecture, and put them on public display.
