History
In 1958 (Shōwa 33), an agreement between Tottori and Shimane Prefectures established the Sakaikō port management union, which became the joint port authority. To the south of the port's first district lies Sakai fishing port under the Fishing Port Act, but it is excluded from the Port of Sakai's port area and is instead managed by Tottori Prefecture. Although the port is sometimes called after the city name Sakaiminato, its official name is read Sakaikō.
Access
The port spreads around the Sakai Channel between Sakaiminato in Tottori and Matsue in Shimane on the opposite shore, with the wharves reachable from the surrounding town.
Best season
The harbor scenery and surrounding walks can be enjoyed year-round, with views of the channel and bay clearest in settled weather.
