Overview
Omoide Yokochō is a compact shopping alley in Nishi-Shinjuku, Tokyo, by the west exit of Shinjuku Station. Also known as Yakitori Yokochō, it traces its roots to a black market from around 1946 and is packed with small Shōwa-era eateries.

History
The alley grew out of a black market formed around 1946, when traces of wartime air raids still remained. It once stretched toward the Odakyu department store, reportedly lining up around 300 shops. After a fire in 1999 its scale changed, yet izakaya, set-meal spots, and ticket shops still line the lanes today.

Best season
As an indoor dining district, it can be enjoyed year-round. Evening into night is when the lanes are busiest.
