Overview
Cape Kamoda is the easternmost point of Shikoku, a headland reaching into the Kii Channel from Tsubaki-cho in the city of Anan, Tokushima Prefecture. Part of Muroto-Anan Kaigan Quasi-National Park, it offers a striking contrast of deep blue sea and a white lighthouse. A quiet sandy beach stretches along its northern side, making it a fine destination for travellers who want to reach the very tip of the island and enjoy a slow seaside moment.

History
The Cape Kamoda Lighthouse crowning the promontory began operating in 1924 and has long watched over vessels crossing the Kii Channel. In 2010 a stone sculpture titled 「Wave Song」 was placed nearby, becoming a favourite spot to mark a visit. The northern beach is known as an egg-laying ground for loggerhead sea turtles and has been designated a Prefectural Natural Monument, giving the cape a history where nature and human activity meet.
Access
The cape lies at roughly 33.83°N, 134.75°E on the southeastern edge of Tsubaki-cho, Anan. From the Tokushima city area, follow National Route 55 south, then take the coastal road toward Tsubaki-cho from central Anan. Public transport is limited, so a rental car or private vehicle is the practical choice. From the parking area at the tip, the lighthouse is reached on foot. Best season
Late autumn and winter, when the air is clear, are especially rewarding. On some mornings in this season the sun rises distorted into the shape of the Greek letter omega (Ω), a phenomenon known as the 「Daruma Sunrise」 that draws photographers. Summer coincides with the loggerhead turtles' nesting season. Sea winds can be strong, so windproof clothing makes the visit more comfortable.

💡 On clear days the lighthouse observatory is said to command views as far as Cape Hi in Wakayama Prefecture, the Ōnaruto Bridge over the Naruto Strait, and Awaji Island. I Island lies to the east and Maiko Island to the north, offering the many-islet scenery typical of the boundary between the Inland Sea and the Pacific.
