Overview

Gokuraku-ji is a Kōya-san Shingon temple in Ōasa-chō Hinoki, Naruto, Tokushima Prefecture. Its mountain name is Nisshō-zan Muryōju-in, and the principal image is Amida Nyorai. It is known as Temple 2 of the Shikoku 88 temple pilgrimage.

History

According to temple tradition, Gokuraku-ji is said to have been founded by the monk Gyōki. Its founding is dated to around the year 800. Since then it has received pilgrims as one of the temples of the Shikoku pilgrimage circuit.
