Overview
Jikō-ji is a temple of the Jōdo (Pure Land) sect located in Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture. History
According to temple tradition, Jikō-ji was founded in 1516, giving it roots reaching back to Japan's Warring States period. As a Pure Land temple, it carries on the practice of nembutsu devotion to Amida Buddha. Over the long years its higan cherry tree has grown into a symbol of the temple, remembered today as one of the earliest-blooming cherries in the region.
