History
Edo Wonderland opened in 1986, welcoming its first visitors on April 23 of that year. The park's design is based on the Genroku era, regarded as the golden age of the Edo period, and its streets line up a wide variety of architecture from rural lodgings to urban samurai residences and government buildings. Since opening it has been loved as a theme park where visitors both watch and experience the culture of Edo.
Access
The park is in the Kinugawa Onsen area of Nikkō, Tochigi, near latitude 36.791 and longitude 139.698. It can be reached by bus or car from stations such as Kinugawa-Onsen Station on the Tobu Kinugawa Line, and is often combined with an overnight stay at the hot-spring resort. Please check official sources for opening hours, admission and closing days.
Best season
Since much of the fun involves strolling the open-air streets, the mild seasons of spring and autumn are especially comfortable. Seasonal festivals and special events are held throughout the year, from summer fairs to a snow-dusted post town in winter, so the park shows a different face with each season.
