History

The name Okunikko has become the common designation for the secluded area stretching from the Nikko mountain range to Konsei Pass. In its narrowest sense it refers to national forest land within this area bearing the address 'Okunikko,' though the term is also used more broadly to include the shore of Lake Chuzenji, and at times even the western foot of Konsei Pass in neighboring Katashina Village, Gunma Prefecture.

Access

Located within the city of Nikko in Tochigi Prefecture, this secluded area spans the zone from the Nikko mountain range to Konsei Pass, and is sometimes accessed via the shore of Lake Chuzenji.

Best season

At an elevation of around 1,500 meters, this remote area offers seasonal scenery throughout the year, including fresh greenery and autumn foliage.
