The Oi River is a first-class river running through Shizuoka Prefecture for 168 km, forming the main stream of the Oi River system. History
As the main stream of the first-class Oi River system, it has long nourished Shizuoka Prefecture. In the Edo period it was a notorious hard point of the Tokaido road, crossed on the shoulders of porters because there was neither bridge nor ferry. Its drainage basin spans roughly 1,280 square kilometers.
