There is an observation deck at its summit, offering a 360-degree panorama that takes in the Dozen Islands ringing the rare Dozen Caldera, a caldera bay considered unusual even on a global scale. History

Mt. Akahage is a symbolic peak of Chiburijima in the Dozen group of the Oki Islands, and the surrounding Dozen Caldera is a landform shaped by ancient volcanic activity. The sight of islands ringing a caldera that has sunk into the sea is rare even worldwide, and it conveys the geological story that the Oki region has nurtured over time. For the origin of the mountain's name and details of the trails, it is best to check the official tourism information for Chibu Village and the Oki area.

Access

The mountain lies on Chiburijima in the Oki Islands, in Chibu Village, Oki District, Shimane Prefecture, at roughly 36.02 degrees north and 133.01 degrees east. From the mainland, cross to the Oki Islands by ferry or high-speed boat from ports such as Sakaiminato or Shichirui, then continue to Chiburijima. As island transport and the route to the summit are limited, confirm boat schedules and local transport in advance.

Best season

Spring and autumn, with clear air and long-distance views, are ideal for enjoying the 360-degree panorama from the summit. Summer brings vivid green and blue sea, but island weather changes easily, so watch for wind and fog when you visit.
