History
Recorded in the Engishiki compiled in the mid-Heian period, Karita Shrine is a shikinaisha believed to be well over a thousand years old. As one of the shrines of Ano district in Iwami Province, it was included among the sites of official court worship and long drew the faith of local people. In 2018 the Western Shimane earthquake toppled the shrine's torii gate, yet the shrine has been protected by the community and handed down to the present day. For details of its founding and enshrined deities, please check official sources.
