Overview
Hamahara Dam is a gravity dam built on the Gōno River in the Gōno River system in Shimane Prefecture, standing 19 meters high. It is operated by the Chugoku Electric Power Company for hydroelectric generation, with a catchment area of about 3,000 square kilometers.

History
Built on the Gōno River within the Gōno River system, the dam was completed in 1953. It is a 19-meter-high gravity concrete dam managed by the Chugoku Electric Power Company. Water is sent from the dam to the company's Akatsuka hydroelectric power plant, generating up to 25,000 kilowatts of electricity. When full, the reservoir covers about 149 hectares and can store around 11,200 thousand cubic meters of water.
