History

Inukamigawa Dam was completed in 1946. Built in the years just after the war, this gravity concrete dam holds back the waters of the Inukami River, supplying irrigation water to nourish the fields downstream and generating power. About 45 meters high and 135 meters long at the crest, it gathers water from a catchment of 31.2 square kilometers and has long supported the region's agriculture and electricity supply.

Access

The dam lies on the Taga Town side of Inukami District, tucked among the Suzuka mountains, at around 35.170°N, 136.339°E. It sits in the upper reaches of the Inukami River, deep beyond Taga Town, known for Taga Taisha shrine, and is best reached by car. Routes from the nearby Meishin Expressway interchanges toward Taga are convenient. Please confirm whether visits are permitted and check road conditions through official information.

Best season

The mountain reservoir changes its face with the seasons. It is especially beautiful from spring into early summer wrapped in fresh greenery, and in autumn when the surrounding hills turn color and cast their reflections on the clear water. When visiting, watch the weather and road conditions and plan a comfortable itinerary.
