History
A waterway extends from the inner harbor to Funamachi inland, where a boat basin once served as Hikone Port until it moved to the new port on the lakeshore in 1967. In the era of flourishing lake shipping it prospered as a hub port, and after the war it transformed into a sightseeing port for pleasure boats. The port is managed by Shiga Prefecture.
