
Overview
Mount Mikami is a mountain 432 metres above sea level in Yasu City, Shiga Prefecture. Because of its shape it is commonly known as "Omi Fuji." At its foot stands Mikami Shrine, which venerates the mountain as a sacred body.

History
Nearer to Kyoto, the traditional capital, Mount Mikami has appeared in Japanese literature since ancient times and is particularly noted for the legend of Fujiwara no Hidesato conquering the giant centipede of Mount Mikami. At its foot stands Mikami Shrine, which venerates the mountain as a sacred body. In 1969 it became part of the Mikami-Tanakami-Shigaraki Prefectural Natural Park.

Best season
For climbing or walking around the foot of the mountain, the fresh greenery of early summer and the autumn, with their mild weather and clear views, are the most comfortable.
