
Overview
Motogō Hikawa Shrine stands in a residential district of Motogō 1-chōme in Kawaguchi, Saitama Prefecture. Its former shrine rank was that of a village shrine, and it is counted among the nine Hikawa shrines of Kawaguchi. Like other Hikawa shrines its formal name is simply "Hikawa Shrine," but it is called by its locality to distinguish it.

History
From ancient times it was said that "a child is a treasure surpassing all others," and the flourishing of descendants was regarded as a symbol of a household's happiness. The shrine drew reverence as a place associated with the blessing of children and the prosperity of descendants, and came to be called the "Shrine of Happiness." To set it apart from other Hikawa shrines, the name of its locality was prefixed to form Motogō Hikawa Shrine.
