
Overview
The Kase River (嘉瀬川, Kase-gawa) is the main stream of the Kase River system flowing through the central-eastern part of Saga Prefecture, and is a first-class river. Its upper reaches hold the Kitayama Dam, the Kase River Dam, and the Kawakami Gorge, making the surrounding area a scenic destination. It is well known for the Saga International Balloon Fiesta, held each November on the riverbed.

History
The Kase River is the main stream of the Kase River system flowing through central-eastern Saga Prefecture and is designated a first-class river. The Kitayama Dam and the Kase River Dam were built in its upper reaches, and together with the Kawakami Gorge the surroundings have been developed as a scenic area. Each November the riverbed hosts the Saga International Balloon Fiesta, an event that has come to represent the region.

Best season
Beyond November, when the Saga International Balloon Fiesta is held on the riverbed, the fresh greenery and autumn foliage seasons also offer scenic appeal along the gorge.
