Overview

The Port of Osaka is a harbor facing Osaka Bay in the city of Osaka, Osaka Prefecture. It is one of Japan's five major international trade ports and, together with the Port of Kobe, has been designated a Super Hub Port. It forms part of the combined Port of Hanshin.

History

The port opened on September 1, 1868. For many years its port authority was the city of Osaka, but from October 1, 2020, it came under the jurisdiction of the Osaka Port and Harbor Bureau, jointly established by the city and prefecture of Osaka. The port authority itself, however, remained unchanged.

The port lies along Osaka Bay in the city of Osaka and can be reached from the surrounding urban area by public transportation.

The harbor area can be visited year-round, and the bay scenery shifts in character with each season.
