Overview
The Church of the Light is the main chapel of the Ibaraki Kasugaoka Church in Ibaraki, Osaka Prefecture, completed in 1989 to a design by architect Tadao Ando. It is known for a minimalist concrete interior into which light streams through a cross-shaped opening cut into the front wall. It ranks among Ando's most famous works.

History
The Ibaraki Kasugaoka Church was established in 1972. The chapel, designed by Tadao Ando, was completed in 1989 and is widely known by its alternate name, the Church of the Light. In 1999 an adjoining church hall, used as a Sunday school, was added. Ando received an international award for church architecture in 1996.
