
Overview
Tennōji Zoo is an urban comprehensive zoo located within Tennōji Park in Tennōji-ku, Osaka. It opened on January 1, 1915, making it the third zoo to be built in Japan. Around 200 species and 1,000 animals are kept across its roughly 11-hectare grounds.

History
The zoo opened on January 1, 1915 and is the third-oldest in Japan. On July 16, 2006, its cumulative number of paying visitors surpassed 100 million, the second such case in Japan after Ueno Zoo. Long operated directly by the City of Osaka, it was transferred to a local incorporated administrative agency established on April 1, 2021.
