Overview

The Yoshii River is a Class A river flowing through the eastern part of Okayama Prefecture and the main stream of the Yoshii River system. It is counted, along with the Asahi and Takahashi rivers, as one of Okayama's three great rivers. Rising from Mount Mikuni in the north of the prefecture, it flows about 133 kilometers through the east, past the south of Okayama City and Kojima Bay into the Seto Inland Sea.

History

As one of Okayama's three major rivers, the Yoshii River has long supported life throughout its basin as a Class A river. Its drainage area extends over roughly 2,110 square kilometers, watering the eastern part of the prefecture on its way down to the Seto Inland Sea.

Access

The river runs north to south through eastern Okayama Prefecture, from its source at Mount Mikuni to Kojima Bay. The nearest stations and access differ depending on which stretch you visit, so check a map or official information for your intended riverside spot.

Best season

Spring through early summer, with fresh greenery and full water flow, and autumn with its clear air are recommended. A morning walk along the river on a calm, sunny day lets you enjoy its unhurried current.
