Hisashi Dam

Overview

Hisashi Dam straddles Furukawa in Ajimu, Usa City, and the Hisashi district of Yamaga in Kitsuki City, Oita Prefecture. It stands on the Yamakura River within the Yakkan River system. This embankment dam is 40 metres high, and the water it holds is used for irrigation and industry. Its reservoir, Lake Hisashi, spreads a calm surface among the mountains of northern Oita.

History

Begun in 1964 and completed after later construction, Hisashi Dam serves both agriculture and industry. It is 40 metres high with a 263-metre crest, and retains about 4,800,000 cubic metres of water.
