Beppu Onsen

Overview

Beppu Onsen is the collective name for the several hundred hot springs that well up throughout the city of Beppu, Oita Prefecture. Beppu is renowned as a hot spring city said to rank first in Japan in both the number of sources and the volume of water discharged. Eight thermal areas of differing origin, long established, are known as the "Beppu Hatto," and in a narrow sense the name refers to the hot spring quarter in the city center.

History
