Overview

Roadside Station Nagayu-onsen stands almost adjacent to the Nagayu Onsen hot-spring district in Naoiri, Taketa City, Oita Prefecture. Serving as a gateway to Nagayu, famed as one of the world's leading carbonated springs, it lies along Oita Prefectural Route 30, the Shonai-Kuju Line. Combining hot-spring atmosphere with the convenience of a roadside station, it works both as a base for bathing and as a drive break toward the Kuju and Taketa areas.

Highlights

  • Nearly adjoining Nagayu Onsen, one of the world's great carbonated springs
  • A bathing base along Prefectural Route 30, the Shonai-Kuju Line
  • A gateway reachable on foot from the hot-spring town
  • An ideal drive break toward the Kuju Highland

History

A relatively new station, it was established on 1 March 2007 and opened on 29 March of the same year. It was developed to promote the appeal of the long-renowned Nagayu Onsen, laid out to feel of a piece with the hot-spring town. Since opening it has welcomed both bathers and drivers as a gateway to the area.

Access

Located near 33.07 degrees north and 131.38 degrees east in Naoiri, Taketa City, it sits along Prefectural Route 30, the Shonai-Kuju Line. Because it nearly adjoins the Nagayu Onsen district, visitors can reach it on foot from the hot-spring town. It is convenient from the Kuju Highland and central Taketa; check official sources for detailed parking and hours.

Best season

Autumn into winter is especially rewarding for a long, warming soak in the carbonated waters, though spring and summer also charm with the fresh green of the Kuju range and cool highland air. Bathing is enjoyable year-round, making it easy to plan a trip that pairs hot springs with seasonal scenery.
