History

Places to ski in Kyushu are limited, and this resort is known as “Kyushu’s largest ski area,” also familiarly called Kuju Ski Resort. Developed to make use of the climate of the high Kuju highland, it has become one of Kyushu’s winter-sports bases. Please check official sources for operator and season information.

Access

Located on the Kuju highland at about 1,150 m elevation in Kokonoe Town, Kusu District, Oita Prefecture, at roughly 33.10°N, 131.18°E. Access routes into the Kuju range are used, but in winter snow tires or equivalent equipment are essential for snow and ice. Confirm operating dates and access details with official information.

Best season

The season is snowy winter. As a rare snow mountain in Kyushu, prime time runs from December into early spring. Being high and cold, dress warmly. The off-season highland scenery is refreshing too, making it an area to enjoy year-round.
