The park opened on September 3, 1929, giving it a long history. Its best-known attraction is the 'duck race' event, which has been held continuously since 1950. It stands near the far end of the street that runs straight up from Nagarekawa, the heart of Beppu Onsen.
Access
The park is located in Beppu, near the end of the street extending from Nagarekawa at the center of Beppu Onsen. Because it sits on the mid-slope of Mount Tateishi, visitors ride the cable car up from the station on the plain to enter. Check maps and official information for detailed routes and operating times.
Best season
A clear day, when the view over Beppu Bay is at its sharpest, is recommended. You can relax in the on-site hot spring while gazing out over the sea.
