Mount Yahiko is a 634-meter mountain rising on the border between Yahiko village and Nagaoka in Niigata Prefecture. As the main peak of the Yahiko range facing the Sea of Japan, its summit offers wide views across Niigata Prefecture. History
Since ancient times it has drawn the devotion of the people as the mountain enshrining the deity of Yahiko Shrine, with the entire mountain regarded as the shrine's sacred precinct. It is the main peak of the Yahiko range on the Sea of Japan side, is designated as part of Sado-Yahiko-Yoneyama Quasi-National Park, and is counted among the Three Hiko Mountains of Japan together with Mount Hiko and Mount Sekko.
