Overview
Akakura Onsen Ski Area is a ski resort located in the Akakura Onsen hot spring area at the foot of Mount Myōkō, within the Myōkō Kōgen district of Myōkō, Niigata Prefecture. Together with Shiga Kōgen and Nozawa Onsen, it is regarded as one of Japan's most historic ski resorts.

History
The ski area opened on December 12, 1937, giving it a long history among Japanese ski resorts. In earlier periods, the entire adjoining area was collectively known as Akakura Onsen Ski Area, and it is now presented as two neighboring ski areas: Akakura Kanko Resort Ski Area and Akakura Onsen Ski Area. The two areas sell both individual area passes and a shared lift pass, and a joint trail map called the 'Myoko Akakura Snow Area' is distributed to visitors.
