Overview
The Niitsu Rolling Stock Plant is a railway vehicle manufacturing facility located in Minamimachi, Akiha Ward, Niigata City, Niigata Prefecture. It traces its origins to a plant that was originally established as the state railway's Niitsu Works, and was launched in 1994 when East Japan Railway Company (JR East) reorganized its Niitsu Rolling Stock Depot. Today it operates as the Niitsu plant of the Japan Transport Engineering Company (J-TREC).

History
Its origins date back to the state railway's Niitsu Works. In June 1994, JR East reorganized its Niitsu Rolling Stock Depot to launch the Niitsu Rolling Stock Plant, which manufactured electric railcars. After the Seibu Tokorozawa vehicle works ended vehicle production in 1999, it became the only vehicle manufacturing plant in Japan directly operated by a railway company. In April 2014, its operations and assets were transferred to the Japan Transport Engineering Company (J-TREC) through a corporate split, resulting in the present structure.
