
Overview
Lake Kamo is a brackish lake on Sado Island in Sado City, Niigata Prefecture. Covering 4.85 square kilometers, it is the largest lake in Niigata Prefecture and the largest lake on any of Japan's remote islands. Ranked among the top 100 Landscapes of Japan, its calm waters lie close to Ryotsu Port.

History
The lake was originally a freshwater body, but during the Meiji period it was opened to the sea to prevent flooding, and the water turned brackish. Oyster farming has flourished here since 1932. The lake takes its name from the former Kamo district.
Access
The lake sits in Sado City on Sado Island, reached from the mainland by ferry. It lies near Ryotsu Port. Please check maps and official sources for exact routes and sailing schedules.
Best season
Spring through autumn is ideal, when the tranquil surface and surrounding scenery are at their best. Winter, when oysters come into season, rewards visitors with local flavor.
