Overview
The Port of Ryōtsu is a harbour on Sado Island in Sado, Niigata Prefecture, managed by Niigata Prefecture. On Sado it is designated a Major Port under the Port and Harbour Act, together with the Port of Ogi, and it is also a Specified Port under the Act on Port Regulations. It functions in effect as a single unit with the adjoining Ryōtsu Fishing Port, a Class 3 fishing port.

History
The Port of Ryōtsu dates back to 1868 and is managed by Niigata Prefecture. On Sado Island it has been designated, alongside the Port of Ogi, a Major Port under the Port and Harbour Act, and it is also classed as a Specified Port under the Act on Port Regulations. The neighbouring Ryōtsu Fishing Port is a Class 3 fishing port, and the two operate in effect as one.

The port is located in Sado, Niigata Prefecture, and serves as the sea gateway to Sado Island. It can be reached by sea route from the mainland side.

The calm-sea, easy-travel months from spring through autumn are the most convenient time to visit. As sailings vary with the weather and season, checking service conditions in advance is advisable.
