History

The Miagata shrines are ancient shrines connected to the miagata, the court's directly administered lands that produced farm goods offered to the imperial court, and Yamato Province counted six of them. So no Miagata Niimasu Shrine is one such shrine, regarded as a candidate for the Shikinai shrine recorded in the register of deities in the Heian-period Engishiki, a sign of its high standing. Over the long centuries it has drawn the reverence of the local community as its tutelary shrine.

The shrine lies in Mitsugarasu 3-chome, in the area extending westward from central Nara. It sits in the western Nara district served by Kintetsu lines and can be reached by bus or on foot from the nearest station.
