The Nara Prefecture Complex of Man'yo Culture is a museum in Asuka Village, Nara Prefecture. History
The museum opened on September 15, 2001. It was developed with the aim of creating a comprehensive cultural center worthy of Nara, the 'home of the Man'yo,' and of conveying the charm of ancient culture in a visually approachable form. It is organized around three functions: exhibition (the Man'yo Museum), library and information services (the library information room), and research (the Institute for Research in Man'yo Ancient Studies).

The museum is located in the Asuka area of Asuka Village, Nara Prefecture, around 34.48°N, 135.82°E. It sits among the scattered historic sites of Asuka, such as Tachibana-dera, making it easy to combine with a walk around the area. As it centers on indoor exhibits, it can be enjoyed in any weather, but spring and autumn, when the flowers of the adjoining Man'yo Garden are at their best, let you enjoy both the galleries and the garden. It makes a fine first stop as a base for exploring Asuka.

💡 The complex includes the Man'yo Garden, planted with the grasses and flowers associated with the Man'yoshu, where you can see the very plants sung of in the poems. Its honorary director is Susumu Nakanishi, known for his research on the Man'yoshu.
