Overview
Iki Kokubun-ji is a temple of the Daitoku-ji school of the Rinzai sect, located in Nakano-go Nishifure, Ashibe-cho, Iki City, Nagasaki Prefecture. History
Among the kokubun-ji built throughout Japan by imperial decree of Emperor Shomu in the Nara period, this temple is the successor to the provincial monastery of Iki Island (the kokubun-soji). Today it is a temple of the Daitoku-ji school of the Rinzai sect, with the mountain name Gokoku-zan and Shakyamuni Buddha as its principal image. Near the precinct lies the ancient temple site, designated by Nagasaki Prefecture as the historic site 'Iki Kokubun-ji Ato.'
