Takashima is an island lying off the western coast of the Nagasaki Peninsula in the northwestern part of Kyushu. The entire island belongs to the city of Nagasaki, and its sea-surrounded setting offers a calm, unhurried atmosphere. Though close to the mainland, it retains the relaxed pace typical of island life.

  • Its setting as an offshore island belonging to Nagasaki City

History

The whole of Takashima belongs to the city of Nagasaki in Nagasaki Prefecture. Until 3 January 2005 it formed the independent municipality of Takashima in Nishisonogi District, after which it was merged into the city of Nagasaki.

Access

Takashima is located in the city of Nagasaki, off the western coast of the Nagasaki Peninsula. As it is an offshore island, access is by sea, so please check maps and official information for ferry departures and timetables.

Best season

Spring through autumn, when the sea is calm and the scenery easy to enjoy, is a comfortable time to visit and to take in the views from the boat. Crossing during the bright daylight hours leaves plenty of time to stroll around the island.
