Hirado Island lies in the sea off the western side of the Kitamatsuura Peninsula in the northern part of Nagasaki Prefecture, and the entire island is administered as part of Hirado City. With an area of 163.42 square kilometers, it is the 4th largest island in Nagasaki Prefecture and the 20th largest in Japan. Its highest peak reaches 535 meters.
