Overview

Komagane Ski Resort is a ski area in Komagane City, Nagano Prefecture. It spreads across a highland on the southeastern flank of Mount Kisokoma, the main peak of the Central Alps, and centers on family-friendly slopes with an average gradient of 15 to 18 degrees. Snowboarding is allowed across the entire area, giving beginners and families room to enjoy the snow. Although natural snowfall is modest, the resort has taken advantage of the low temperatures to make artificial snow, keeping the slopes usable regardless of the weather. Operating conditions can vary from year to year, so check official information before you set out.

Highlights

  • A highland ski area at the foot of the Central Alps with views of Mount Kisokoma
  • Family-friendly runs averaging 15 to 18 degrees
  • Open slopes where snowboarding is allowed throughout
  • Reliable snow made with snowmaking that resists weather swings

History

The resort was once run by Chuo Alps Kanko Co., Ltd. In July 2019, that company spun off three businesses, including Komagane Ski Resort, to establish Chuo Alps Resort Co., Ltd. It was then sold to Ina Resort, a subsidiary of the Cross Project Group that operates Ina Ski Resort, and the management was handed over accordingly. This highland ski area has long drawn skiers not only from the local area but also from neighboring prefectures such as Gifu, Aichi, and Shizuoka.

Access

The resort is in Komagane City, Nagano Prefecture, at roughly 35.74 degrees north and 137.89 degrees east, on the highland southeast of Mount Kisokoma. By car, the Komagane interchange on the Chuo Expressway leads conveniently toward the highland. By public transport, use Komagane Station on the JR Iida Line as a base and take a bus or taxi. Road conditions and access during the season can change, so check official sources for the latest guidance.

Best season

The main season is winter for skiing and snowboarding, and the resort has used artificial snowmaking to keep the slopes reliable despite the weather. With many gentle family-oriented runs, the winter holiday period is easy to enjoy for beginners getting used to snow and for families with children. Since the operating period may differ each year, confirm it in advance through official information.
