Overview

Yoshikawa Park is a large urban park in the Koyakita area of Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture. A core district park at the city's southern edge, it spreads a broad lawn across roughly 3.9 hectares. An artificial stream runs through its center, and the open landscape of water and grass makes it a pleasant place for local residents to relax.

Highlights

  • An open lawn spreading across roughly 3.9 hectares
  • An artificial stream running through the park's center
  • A fountain set in the northeast corner
  • A ground in the southeast and athletic play equipment on the west

History

Yoshikawa Park opened on March 31, 1996. The surrounding district has grown increasingly residential over the past two to three decades, and the park was laid out as a nearby green space supporting the lives of the growing population. Planting was deliberately kept minimal, giving the open design a distinctive focus on lawn and water features.

Access

The park sits in Koyakita, Matsumoto City, with the JR Shinonoi Line running along its east side and arterial roads such as the Matsumoto Ring Takaie route to the south. Yet in the middle of the park that bustle is hardly felt. Parking for visitors is provided on the west side. It is reassuring to check routes from the nearest station and parking details with official sources before you go.

Best season

Spring to early summer, when the lawn is vivid green, and summer, when children can play in the artificial stream, are the best times to visit. The central water feature is especially popular in the hot season. Autumn is well suited to relaxing on the grassy expanse.
