History

Komoro City Zoo opened in 1926. As a municipal zoo with a long history, it has been cherished by local people over many years, together with Kaikoen, a famous landmark of the old castle town. The way the mood of the former castle grounds and a zoo coexist in a single space gives this place its particular charm.

Access

The zoo is located inside Kaikoen Park in Komoro, Nagano. It is within walking distance of Komoro Station on the Shinano Railway and the JR Koumi Line; entering the castle park (Kaikoen) that spreads right beside the station brings you to the zoo. As opening hours, admission information, and closed days may change, please confirm with official sources before visiting.

Best season

Spring, when the cherry trees of Kaikoen bloom, and autumn, when the trees take on color, are recommended seasons for enjoying the zoo alongside a walk through the grounds. Since it is mainly outdoors, choosing a day with mild weather makes for a comfortable visit.
