History
The name Yahagi is said to derive from a settlement of arrow-making clans people that once stood near Yahagi Bridge. Because attaching feathers to an arrow was called "hagu," the name became "Yahagi" (written 矢矧) and was later rewritten as 矢作. According to legend, Yamato Takeru made arrows from bamboo on a river islet during his eastern campaign and won victory, giving the river its name.
