History
The museum opened in 1995 on the shore of Lake Suwa, designed by architect Shōzō Uchii, and displays works collected by Shōji Hattori, Ichirō Hattori, and Sunritz Industry Co., Ltd. It is operated by the public interest incorporated foundation Sunritz Hattori Museum of Arts. The collection includes works by Renoir and Chagall as well as Ogata Kōrin and Sakai Hōitsu, and it holds one of only two Japanese National Treasure tea bowls, 'Fuji-san' by Hon'ami Kōetsu. The Kitazawa Museum of Art's main building stands nearby.
